 Since my wetting had trailed off so slowly they became "just in case" rubber pants starting when I turned 17. I was pretty dry by then and had a really good record (but not perfect) record of staying dry when away from home. My mother got me a pair of "soaker" pants that I guess were like training pants but bigger. I would wear those or else a couple of pairs of underpants and then the rubber pants. I had a rubber pad about the size of a small bath towel that was flannel on one side and rubber on the other that she would put on the bed. At hotels or motels she would ask the staff to put plastic on the bed. Some people whose house we stayed at knew that I still had accidents and put plastic on the bed. It was humiliating for me to know they knew I still had accidents and worse if they found out I still wore rubber pants.

"Just in case" rubber pants were very difficult for me because I felt like I couldn't be trusted. My grandmother especially aggravated that feeling with her negative comments. It wasn't that I felt like a baby, I just felt untrustworthy and not in control. I always felt a little nauseous both when I packed them and when I would have to put them on.
