I can relate to your feeling odd that the adults had had a conversation about the possibility (however unlikely) that you would wet your bed and that you would be wearing rubber pants. I can tell you from personal experience that it was essential that your mom let them know. What makes me a little more queasy is to what extent did they discuss it. Does she need plastic under her? Will the cotton pants be enough if she has an accident? The little one's diapers are available if she needs them.
You had been dry for several months right? Were you personally confident that you could stay dry at that point? Or was it a source of relief and/or comfort that you would be wearing the "just in case" rubber pants. Did they put plastic on your bed?
