I realize I may have misled you about the timeframe. When I first visited my grandmother during college it was right at the end of the time when I was still having random accidents. I had been regularly dry since 17 but still had occasional accidents (every few months or so) for a about 3 years after that and had still often worn rubber pants at night for “just in case.” By the time I went away to college I considered myself to be dry enough to not need rubber pants (pad yes, pants no). Even away from home by then I slept in pajamas with underpants under them. It was right about then (during my first year away at college) I made the first of those visits.
My grandmother laid out towels, washcloth, extra underpants and rubber pants on the bed. At first I had a momentary chill ‘cause I thought the towels were diapers. Then I realized not. No I wasn’t all that surprised and I wasn’t angry or anything…it was more like “yeah…I guess I still need them.” In later visits my attitude was “why fight it…I’ll feel more confident wearing them anyway.” I never wet them in any of the visits.
