I was at Prelims and finals and they were consistent... That's why these results make absolutely no sense. I'm so disappointed with this organization.

How can you say that? What did Shea and Morgan do to you? Do you even know them!

Prelim wins don't always identify overall winner! Depends who is in your group.

Kathleen, Morgan, and Emma were all in same group...Morgan and Emma clearly had stronger talents, Morgan won in prelim swim (if I remember correctly), their OSQs were stronger even if you don't agree with them and their evening gowns stunning...and Emma won miracle maker, academic, and Colombo awards...so she must have had a strong resume. Shea was consistently outstanding in all phases winning prelim talent and OVERALL interview also clearly miles ahead of the winner in talent and stayed true to herself in OSQ, standing by her convictions in her answers (again whether you agree with her or not). Her evening gown although beautiful did minimize her stunning looks. Both Shea ans Morgan in black were underwhelming in gown. The first runner up was also consistently very talented and fit. Her evening gown was among my two favorites both nights along with Emma's. Both were perfect fits and beautifully modeled. Kathleen's dress swallowed her ans did not show her frame at all. It wore her as opposed to her wearing it. Kathleen is clearly taller than the rest, and beautiful in swim but swim is not worth that much in overall score. The other girls were shorter and different body types but just as fit. Miss MD org could have gotten any 9 of the top 10 ready for Atlantic City. I'm afraid that unless kathleen has some other hidden talent, we will not see her in the finals beyond swim maybe. Victoria Graham is an amazing young woman who would have served the state well as she continues to do, she's already put maryland on the national map.
The results really tell me there were high expectations about Kathleen so she was scored high and other girls were discounted at the start. By the time the finals came, it was too late?
I was there with a friend whose daughter competed in teen. Left very confused!!

Agree with you, very confusing outcome. Prelim and scholarship awards are not a good indicator of overall winner since the girls are divided into groups for prelims and it doesn't necessarily mean they had the highest scores overall. The miracle maker raised the most money, the academic award is applied for, and the Colombo award is military based-none have anything to do with the outcome but do show the good character of the girl. The fact that Shea won overall interview and Rachel overall talent should have been reflected in the outcome. While Kathleen is a beautiful girl I don't think she was the most deserving of the crown, even if she had a great interview, her onstage events were not the best and her talent was awful...she skipped 8 counts of her dance on finals night. That is not an attack on her character because I don't know her, just an overall opinion on her performance. All of the other girls in the top five out performed Kathleen in talent and OSQ and looked just as stunning in their gowns and swim. I'm afraid we will find that it takes more than a very pretty face and long legs to do well in September!
