Subject: Good ol' Maryland

#1 the results cannot have been read backwards! The card clearly says fourth runner up- (name),third runner up-(name), etc., #2 the commotion backstage was because Susan forgot to call the top 5 to line up center stage before she started calling out their ranking, #3 the surprised act by Sherry deserves an academy award, Unfair as it is, Sherry and the board got the Miss Maryland that was handpicked long before the first night of prelims. Hannah sold Kathleen to the board and will personally prep her for Miss America! It's all very sad and disgusting but in the end they think Kathleen's striking look will get her far in the competition but I'd be surprised if they let that lazy talent act anywhere near the television cameras!! If the board is going to handpick girls despite their qualifications they should have auditions for the job and skip the actual pageant

I saw Kathleen's head shots for the pageant - they were great but her pageant pictures where different. I just saw a tall girl with tons of makeup and a very cookie- cutter look. It makes me even more surprised with judges's scores. I see nothing, no a single trait, that makes her superior. Unless height was the factor!

No doubter what the above posters are saying is true. This was all predetermined as it has been in years past in both the Miss and Teen.

Then after the competition she tells the rest of the top five that "something is wrong with the results and she'll check into it." She is just prolonging the agony to young women who are already deeply disappointed. Sherry, find another hobby.

Preliminary awards mean nothing. Miss Maryland only needs to be 2nd or 3rd in every category to win. She needs to be consistent. Not to mention the fact that talent, despite being a high percentage of the individuals score, is no longer the most important factor when choosing a titleholder.

This happens often in MD... where there is smoke there is fire!

If the rules were followed and all was fair we would have had a different outcome, this year, and last year, and probably the year before, Period!

It's amazing, Miss America is a scholarship pageant. And based off of the comments on this Board, interview, talent or scholarship meant nothing in this current selection. What happened to the days when a young lady was well versed on current events, and could answer a question coherently. That college/university education wasn't just an acceptance letter, it was a proven academic track record. Agree with the talent comment, most never perform it again. But a few appearances doesn't make a valuable platform, or show true service. In the end, it seems like we would want to send the best representative, not just a beautiful face.

The fact that we have placed 3 out of 5 years had nothing to do with who was handpicked. It is hard to argue that at least 4 of them were handpicked. Look at what 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2016 accomplished. Those young ladies made it their mission to be good reps, and it was proven in the awards they achieved outside .

[> [> Subject: To your note about academics and scholarship - don't expect to crown anyone intelligent in Maryland until Sherry rescinds her unofficial rule that requires titleholders to leave school for a year (unpaid) and God forbid, they attend school out of state. That's how we lose the smart girls with dreams beyond the pageant stage, and we get girls who are only experienced in pageantry.

[> [> [> Subject: Smart girls see beyond the sham that Sherry puts on - that's how Maryland lost Sam, Stephanie, Kati, Sara and plenty of others. Having a full-time titleholder is admirable, but not when the scholarship money is low, there is no consistent income or other board-secured benefits (apartment, car, etc.), and girls are shamed for pursuing academic opportunities out-of-state.

Each of the formers mentioned, our forevers, have exemplified service and scholarship promoted by the organization and regardless of the results of the national pageant, have continued to develop their education, careers, talents and friendships beyond. Maybe this character is what the judges saw in them.

Keep using education to defend your argument or to make you feel better about yourself and your child losing. It's a fucking BEAUTY PAGEANT for crying out loud. Get it through your thick skulls. If you keep competing and haven't placed, move on! Why continue to make excuses for yourself or bring others down? MD has really stepped up their game in the last few years with choosing girls who actually look the part...... and frankly it's about time. Stop lying to yourself by saying beauty doesn't count. I'm sorry you feel shitty because you'll never be as beautiful as Hannah, Destiny, or Kathleen. The other forevers were beautiful too but not in a STRIKING way and that probably pisses you off. I believe they will all get very far in their lives. The ones that don't have their degrees have their own life experiences or personal reasons why they didn't get one. Some simply can't afford one. Who are you to look down on them for not having a degree? That doesn't take anything away from their intelliigence and at least they are not in student loan debt. Some of the most brilliant people in the world don't have their degrees because they caught on that having a degree is not the only way to success. Give me a break with this education nonsense and do something useful with your life, instead of working an average job and living an average life.

HAHA you are a fool. I like your low-key attack towards the winners before Destiny. You obviously do not know the previous winners. Stop degrading the other forevers. To say the past forevers were not strikingly beautiful is complete bull. I've known all of the former Miss Marylands back to 2010 and they all have been extremely intelligent, sweet, and hard working not to mention among the most beautiful women I've ever met. They all more than deserved their state titles as did the last 3 winners. But to say Hannah or Kathleen or Destiny are any more beautiful that the previous contestants is crap and just plain ignorant.

I used to think hannah was nice and sweet until she pulled something like this! I guess thats the whole point of this is to "not act like the real you until your year is up". there is no way that kathleen deserved to win for Maryland! Everything about her (minus her looks) were not fit to be Miss Maryland at all, but other girls fit the bill. It really upsetting for the Miss America system and Hannah's name has gone down hill for that stunt. I expected more out of her than that.
