Subject: To your note about academics and scholarship - don't expect to crown anyone intelligent in Maryland until Sherry rescinds her unofficial rule that requires titleholders to leave school for a year (unpaid) and God forbid, they attend school out of state. That's how we lose the smart girls with dreams beyond the pageant stage, and we get girls who are only experienced in pageantry.

Newsflash: That's not what Miss America is looking for. Start crowning the smart girls.

[> [> [> Subject: Smart girls see beyond the sham that Sherry puts on - that's how Maryland lost Sam, Stephanie, Kati, Sara and plenty of others. Having a full-time titleholder is admirable, but not when the scholarship money is low, there is no consistent income or other board-secured benefits (apartment, car, etc.), and girls are shamed for pursuing academic opportunities out-of-state.

[> [> [> Subject: Are you serious. Hannah is extremely bright. So was Joanna Guy and so was Christina Denny would made the national interview DVD. All three very bright and very beautiful. So your argument about Miss Maryland being only about looks is pretty stupid. If Masek were dumb she would not have even made it to Hagerstown. GET REAL.

[> [> [> [> Subject: I completely agree about Joanna - although I do know that the conflicting expectations of the Miss Maryland board made the year difficult on her academically (for an organization that is supposed to be about scholarship). We have had five winners since Joanna, and intelligence or academic drive have not been salient qualities of these recent titleholders.

Cristina nailed her interview but other than that....Hannah is smart, if you are a GI, she is right at that level. She definitely appeals to her base.

Each of the formers mentioned, our forevers, have exemplified service and scholarship promoted by the organization and regardless of the results of the national pageant, have continued to develop their education, careers, talents and friendships beyond. Maybe this character is what the judges saw in them.

Keep using education to defend your argument or to make you feel better about yourself and your child losing. It's a fucking BEAUTY PAGEANT for crying out loud. Get it through your thick skulls. If you keep competing and haven't placed, move on! Why continue to make excuses for yourself or bring others down? MD has really stepped up their game in the last few years with choosing girls who actually look the part...... and frankly it's about time. Stop lying to yourself by saying beauty doesn't count. I'm sorry you feel shitty because you'll never be as beautiful as Hannah, Destiny, or Kathleen. The other forevers were beautiful too but not in a STRIKING way and that probably pisses you off. I believe they will all get very far in their lives. The ones that don't have their degrees have their own life experiences or personal reasons why they didn't get one. Some simply can't afford one. Who are you to look down on them for not having a degree? That doesn't take anything away from their intelliigence and at least they are not in student loan debt. Some of the most brilliant people in the world don't have their degrees because they caught on that having a degree is not the only way to success. Give me a break with this education nonsense and do something useful with your life, instead of working an average job and living an average life.

HAHA you are a fool. I like your low-key attack towards the winners before Destiny. You obviously do not know the previous winners. Stop degrading the other forevers. To say the past forevers were not strikingly beautiful is complete bull. I've known all of the former Miss Marylands back to 2010 and they all have been extremely intelligent, sweet, and hard working not to mention among the most beautiful women I've ever met. They all more than deserved their state titles as did the last 3 winners. But to say Hannah or Kathleen or Destiny are any more beautiful that the previous contestants is crap and just plain ignorant.
