Memorial for Kelly Cortesi -- KKO School of Irish Dance, 11:35:04 07/24/08 Thu
The Kelly-Oster School is helping the Cortesi Family to plan a memorial for Kelly on Saturday 7/26 in Putnam Valley from 2-9 PM. Kelly's mom would love to have an "Irish Session." If anyone is interested in attending to donate service and play some traditional Irish music, please contact Karyn Oster at KellyOsterNY@aol.com. More information about Kelly Cortesi is posted on the school web site at http://www.kellyosterschool.com/
We will be setting up a memorial fund to help cover costs of the expenses of Kelly's hospital bills and funeral services. As well as to start up a scholarship in her name for Irish dancers. Donations came be made to The Kelly Oster School: Kelly Cortesi Fund and mailed to PO BOX 15, Brewster, NY 10509
Kelly's organs were donated and her family has received word that at least 4 recipients have received transplants so far. Sometimes it is hard to cope with the loss of life at such a young age, but just maybe we can find comfort in knowing that Kelly's life did have a purpose here on earth, if not for the joy she brought to us, but for the life saving gift she was able to give to those other 4 people.

We are so very happy to see you win your first first in Albany!! You danced beautifully, it was great to be there. It was also very awesome to see our school take 1,2,3 and 6 in one competition and then dominate again on Sun.!! U11 Inishfree way to go!!!!

I hope everyone is enjoying there summer so far. Unfortunately, it goes so fast which is why I am in need of a volunteer who will be going to the Albany and/or Rockland County Feis. As you know our Annual Show and dance (one of our schools fundraiser) will soon be upon us. Last year our baskets were a huge success because of our volunteers, families and our local vendors who in the past have donated many generous gifts to be added to our baskets. I will be away this weekend and would like to ask if we could get a volunteer to visit some of these vendors at the Albany and Rockland Feis. I really don't know how I can possibly begin to properly thank you all for all that you have done for me...
It has been a dream of mine to become a TCRG since I was about 12 years old- and to be teaching with a school like Inishfree is a dream come true!
I always say that I am so lucky to be a part of our amazing school- and I truly am.
I have to thank all of the incredible parents who have supported me since I began teaching with Inishfree five years ago- and who were EVEN more amazingly supportive as I was studying and practicing for my exam. Your belief in me and my abilities has always meant so much- and your warm wishes, thoughts and prayers were so greatly appreciated.
Thank you to ALL of our dancers- from our beginners to our Seniors- even when you didn't know how to respond to my, shall we say, irrepressible perkiness(?) you all still listened and worked with me! It has been so wonderful to see you all working to reach your potential and being there with you through the great times, and even the disappointments. It is an honor to work with such a talented group of children and young adults- but besides having talent- you all are just great kids! I have had so much fun working with you all week after week- and I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together in the future!
And to Sean- thank you, thank you, thank you. You have believed in teaching ability from Day 1, and you have offered insight, suggestions, criticisms and praise that have always been so very helpful in making me reach my potential as a teacher. You have always treated me as an equal, and it has been so very much appreciated. You have trusted me with your students, and I cannot begin to let you know how much that has meant to me. I have always told people that working with you and learning from you is like going to the Harvard of Irish Dance teaching- and it is so true! Your teaching style, positive thinking, ethics, and never give up attitude have been a constant inspiration to me- and have made Inishfree into the school it is. Thank you for giving me the chance to be a part of it all- I am so excited that I am an Inishfree TCRG!
And, of course, thank you soooo much to my Mom, Dad, and sister Tara- who were there for me from the time I learned my first jigs, got my first recall, went to my first worlds, supported me through great results and reassured me after the not so great ones, who bought me shoes,wigs, and costumes, who glued rhinestones on my socks years before rhinestones came on socks, who spent endless hours curling my hair, then hours the next day taking out those curlers, who drove me back and forth to classes, privates, dance outs, feisanna, Nationals- who were always there for a hug and a kiss when they were so needed, who have come to all Inishfree events, who have opened St. Stephen's for me when I was running late, who call constantly during majors to see how the Inishfree dancers are doing, who are glued to the message boards and live commentary during said majors to see how Inishfree is getting on, who were there for me with hugs, cheers, and happy tears when I got to go up on stage for my first time for an Oireachtas winner, who put up with my nerves before, during, and after my TCRG exam, and for never being less than 110% behind me in everything that I have ever done- in Irish dancing and beyond. Even when I may not show it- it has always meant so very much. I love you guys!
