Matthew,
Hello again. :)
Listening to Humming Bird is a lot like listening to the Beatles... that is, they played around with many different music styles, often on the same album... except there's no "Revolution #9" type clunkers on the Humming Bird albums.
For example, "Timeless", my favorite Humming Bird album, starts with an extremely energetic rock song ("haruka naru umi e") then immediately swings into the dreamy, and beautifully harmonized, "shukufuku to namida" (Benediction and Tears). Then it goes energetic rock again with Furuya-san's "Make A Map".
The one album that stays truest to the "Fire Bomber" sound, is probably 1.2.3, as Shiro said. I love that album too, but you'd really missing a lot if you listen to only that one.
I'd recommend a good place for you to start, if you've never heard Humming Bird before, would be with their "Happy Birthday Best & Live Anthology" (VICL-60571~2). It's a 2 CD set. The first CD is greatest hits from their years on the Victor Entertainment. The second CD is a collection of live clips that includes a few of their earlier songs from their NEC Avenue (record label) days.
For the CDs that are still in print, you can find them where Shiro mentioned, or at CDNOW.com, HMV.com, or in my case, I ordered them through Kinokuniya book store in Seattle. The out of print CDs, like "Timeless", are a bit harder to find. You might try animejungle.com. That's how I got my copy. If they don't have it in stock, you can go through their "item watchlist" and they'll notify you when a copy turns up.
This message got a bit longer than I like... but I hope it's been some help to you. :)
peace
