When I started detecting I savored each and every gold ring (or any other valuable jewelry item) I found and was a little bit annoyed when some of my detecting friends sold or melted their gold finds.
But after 200+ goldies I must confess that they might be right and I could be wrong…
I mean, how long can one look at your past finds and savor all those wonderful moments and then suddenly realize that you cannot place the day and place when you found this or that wonderful find?
I have now reached the stage when I consider to sell my gold and with the price of the eternal metal at the moment, who can blame me?
But a little voice tells me that when I am old and retired I will have a hell of an urge to see, touch and savor the “spoils” of all the years of “hard” work (no detecting can actually be hard work per se) and then there would be nothing for reminiscences.
For those of you who are not beach detectorists, gold finds must be few and far between, but the argument must be same for truly outstanding (and valuable) items you have made through the years.
All responses to this post will be thrown into a hat and my daughter Nina will draw an entrée that will receive a 2000-year old coin.
Please respond by telling us what you are doing with your gold finds (or any other valuable finds) or any other suggestions in this regard.
This is a combined “competition” (there is no right or wrong answer) between four metal detecting forums that I frequent and Nina will pick the winning entry from all responses from the proverbial hat that are posted …
