This is an antique Waltham 14ct Gold Pocket Watch. This is not a metal detecting find but I thought I will share it with you. The watch is in running order but could probably do with a service after 109 years!
These pocket watches are apparently called Full Hunters Watches as it has solid (gold) casings on both sides and have to be clicked open to read the time.
.
As you can see from the picture, this watch was made by the American Waltham Watch Company operating from 1885 to 1905 when the name changed to the Waltham Watch Company. According to an expert friend of mine, its safety barrel serial number 9930722 refers to the year 1900 (Anglo-Boer War era).
.
It weighs a hefty 58 grams and excluding its non-gold working parts, its gold value alone (14 carat solid gold) is well over US$300. But this antique watch is obviously worth much more and sells for around US$450.00 in the USA where there are collectors societies collecting specifically Waltham Pocket watches.
