We can't imagine NOT having guineas! Our tick population has gone from very dense to almost none, and we enjoy their antics. Ours are very good and will come into their pen any time I want them to. Makes for an easy time, contrasted with our first free-ranging group.

We still have nine, including the two royal purple keets I bought from Claude at VOO. This season has not been good for raising our own keets. The first nest, inside the guinea house, was abandoned after about two weeks of brooding. I suspect the eggs were contaminated from all the extra, extra rain and leaking roof. I put 9 eggs in the 'bator, and two MIGHT hatch this week. The next known nest, near their house that I planned to protect when someone went broody, was destroyed three days ago by something that ate contents but left shells. I suspect possums or squirrels--or maybe turtles? I haven't found the current nest.

We've both incubated and let mamas hatch them, but have had very poor sucess letting mamas raise them. We have far too many predators here.
