In reply to: Michaele WA, hoping you're doing okay, despite the "smoke". 's message, "Gardner? How close are Tonasket fires today, with high wind?" on 17:48:40 07/11/08 Fri

actually I have no smoke up here... the fires are on the other side of town, and to the east of me, in real steep terrain, so it is making it quite hard to put out, plus the "big" fire in Spokane is getting most of fire support - "Gated Community" expensive houses and all - the gov'ner even showed up down there last night... Weird, but you and my lil'sis are hearing more about our fire then I am!! (but I can tell you the exact roads the fires in Spokane are on!!)
I got way more smoke when the fires were just south of Okanogan, last week.

The wind... whoa.. tore off a hunk of tarpaper from the roof of my chicken house. Many trees knocked down (luckily I have no big trees around me) roofs torn off... houses moved just over on their foundations... they are figuring if it is classified as tornado strength winds... I tell ya, if my outhouse were not sleeping, it would have gotten blown over.

What is sad, is what may have got caught in the Cayuse Fire is the barter fairgrounds... they just held their 25th Annual Fair last year.
