The hen has a total of 10 keets that are about 3 weeks old. A few days ago she started roosting with some of them. It seems that only about 5 make it to the high roost. The other 5 stay in the elevated nest box with their old aunties who were there & curious when they hatched. The first couple of days the hen tried to keep them under her wings but seems to have given up that idea. Also, the main roo claims that they are his and tries to be helpful with managing the large brood.


And, I have no idea what kind of chicken she is. I rescued her in California when the neighbors moved out and left the chickens behind for the predators. Everything that I could catch went into our coop. These birds have strong nesting needs.
