Subject: dominant guinea stands up to me defending traumatised keet

If you recall, I have a hen raising 10 keets that are now 5 weeks old. I heard the ongoing call of distress from a keet and went to explore. I saw the mamma and she didn't seem concerned. The keet had gotten into the garden somehow (flew over) and did not know how to get out. So, I went in and retrieved it. It was screaming even louder now; but, I wanted to let it go near it mamma.

By now all the other guineas had come running - certainly must have been a different distress call. The dominant male guinea challenged me to put it down - charged me in a threatening way. Luckily I could see the mamma near and could let the keet go without incurring further challenges from the male.

They don't seem to recognize a favor.
