Subject: Guinea adventures

I have had a horrible time all summer finding the guinea nests. I don't have many now but there are some laying I just know. After my snake excitement I haven't found another nest.

A couple of days ago a hen showed up that I hadn't seen in a week or so. Hummmm she is on a nest. I tried following her but it got dark and I lost her. She showed again this eveing with another royal purple hen I thought got, got. I was ready for them. I waited while they ate a little milo and then they started weaving their way across the street to my neighbor's field. I waited....and one at a time they each circled back and came within a few yards of me, flew up on the fence and BOTH began to call, LOUDLY. Suddenly here comes the rest of the flock to their rescue. LOL After the troops got there they took off across the field again and under the fence heading to the next place. This is a lot further than I thought....I walked down the road as they picked up speed heading for big pile of trash and weeds. OK...here I am, trespassing...going down the neighbor's drive and still H--- bent on finding these nests. LOL Slowly they made their way to the tallest weeds and disappeared. YEP...as I stepped into the weeds I could see a few eggs and the two hens already settled in. I had to get a stick and shoo them off...THEY PUT UP A FUSS! I got 35 eggs and brought them home, candled and sure enough ALL are showing different stages of development. So now they are in the bator and I will have a daily watch to see if something is pipping. I WON the hunt!
