Expecting 105 today with heat index of 115. Humidity is around 60%. That's supposed to continue most of next week. Our birds seem to be OK, but panting. I don't coop them until nearly 9 p.m. and its getting pretty dark by then. We're not cooling off at night like we normally do. Still mid to upper 80s at 10 p.m. with daily lows around 79 just before dawn.

Fortunately we have lots of shade around their pens/coops and tall, large-leaved weeds are now growing where the trees were destroyed by the Dec. ice storm, so the guineas have lots of shade and cover as they free range. I've noticed they are staying much closer now, though.

We're the only ones in our neighborhood that do much gardening, so have much nicer ground protection. All the neighborhood cats come here to hunt small birds because we've planted extensively for food and protection for them. There's always a trade off of good and bad.
