If it is a slipped achilles tendon from an injury, you have a good chance of its healing. If it is a congenital defect, it probably won't work. I tried the sling for nearly two weeks with only limited success, and have not used it again.

When I instead popped the tendon into place and wrapped a narrow strip of DUCT TAPE around and around the joint to hold it here, it worked. It needs to be a narrow strip wound on itself, keeping it narrow. This allows the babe to use its leg(s) normally.

My Achilles, a guinea, is several years old now and has had no more problems. I fairly recently did the same thing with a Silkie chick. I didn't wrap a long enough strip the first time, and it came off too soon, 'though it appeared to be successful. Within a few days or so, it again popped out of place. I wrapped it with a longer strip and left it on longer, and it worked. No more problems. I think this babe had caught its foot in the wire floor.

I know a couple of other people who have had success with the duct tape. I'd worried about the stickiness damaging the skin, but that didn't happen. Apparently the natural oils in the skin eventually loosens the adhesive.
