Subject: Gardener and other northerners

I was sitting here frustrated with my garden and was wondering how you cope with such a short growing season. When do you start putting plants in the ground? Do you grow your own plants from seeds or are you forced to buy hardy plants. What veggies do you find grow best with a short season?
