Used this Kaytee feed from Petsmart to feed baby cardinals for nearly a week until they could safely go back with their parents. Kinda long story, but the upshot is that they've been back out with parents (I kept them in the greenhouse with a panel of the door off so they knew where they were) for about a week now and are doing well. I hear them daily and get to see them occasionally and watch them being fed.

My wildlife rehabber told me of this food several years ago and I keep a can in the freezer (it is in powder form) for emergencies.
