Subject: Who mentioned SNAKE and jinxed me

I was really late getting home tonight so it was very dark. I was shutting off lights in the barn and closing things up for the night when I remembered I needed to check my black silkie she should have chicks hatching tonight and tomorrow. I bent down to pick her up she is in the corner of the barn where it is pretty dark. I felt something cool to the touch. Was not the silkie feathering I expected. Sure enough there was a bloody black snake UNDER my silkie hen busily munching on the hatching eggs. I spent a split second torn between grabbing my camera to take pics and grabbing the snake to save the chicks. WELL the chicks won out I grabbed the snake and snapped it as hard as I could to stun it then went out of the pen in search of my trusty hoe to send it on to a happier life. I managed to get 4 eggs out of the body still hatching unharmed amazing. Now to see if they survive the night. Phew what a close call.
