Subject: Keets hatch themselves

I set 31 eggs...all were fertile. I put 31 in the hatcher and ALL but one made it out! One early on had pipped all the way around and got stuck. It died with the slightest bit of membrane still holding it back.

I think most of you know how much I will help keets out. We got down to the last three and they only had a very small bit of shell missing. I candled and they were moving so I knew they were alive. I peeled back more shell and membrane wasn't the least bit bloody so they were ready. When I peel shell or membrane back and see their eye open and looking I feel like they are saying, "HELP! Get me out!" I have all but the very last two in the brooder and they are eating and drinking.

Now WHY can't the chicks hatch like this?!!!!! While all this is going on I notice that some of the eggs still in the incubator are pipping. YIKES they aren't due for two more days but things have been hot and I bet it moved them up. I didn't have time to clean the hatcher up but just added them to the pipping keets. Now we will see how this all works out for the chicks.
