I vasolined mine last night too. I'm not sure how often it needs to be done--guess it depends on whether or not they rub it off. Mine gather dust, and I think as long as the "dirty" stuff is there, the vasoline is too. I've only done mine once a season. I'm pretty sure bag balm will work as well.

I think dubbing is mutilation! I know the original reasons for dubbing were because the fighting cocks would catch hold of combs and wattles, and to keep them from getting frostbitten. But, to show them, you have to have them dubbed.
