This is just because I want to say it. Luke was an also ran in my affections until they did the Star Wars prequels. Why? Because the prequels completed his story. His father faced the dark side and lost. His father had love but always gave into anger. His father was a Sith. Luke was a Jedi. He cared, he found peace and, ultimately, when faced with the same darkness he overcame it and stepped back. "There is no passion, there is only peace." People hate the prequels but I love them for two reasons: 1. Obi-Fucking-Wan Kenobi and 2. It showed that Luke Skywalker was a true hero. And even though the originals take Luke from whiny farmboy to the first of the new Jedi Order and the fight with Vader in front of the Emperor is fucking epic and shows us WHY Luke steps back and doesn't give in to hate... the prequel trilogy, with Anakin's fall, really fleshes that scene with Luke, Vader and the Emperor out to make it unbelievably epic. Where Anakin failed, Luke triumphed... Lucas seems to think that the story was really about Anakin's fall from grace and return to redemption but, to me, it's far more about Luke shouldering the sins of his father and overcoming them.         Extraordinary drama, I guess? It raises the stakes to an even higher level? Because it was going too well for someone and this is another 'this changes everything' moment? I understand that the series is loosely based on the War of the Roses between the Yorks (Starks) and the Lancasters (Lannisters) and a lot of what resulted in that war for the throne was it wiped out a lot of people and we wound up with a distant cousin (Henry Tudor) taking the throne, marrying into the rival family and setting up the Tudor dynasty. In Song of Ice and Fire, you're left wondering if one family is even going to survive... fact is, the remaining members continue to become more and more hardcore and awesome.         Jaime is a total douche-canoe but he's also got some soul to him. He's a complete fuck up (you know, screwing his sister and throwing Bran out of a tower) but, at the same time, he does love his brother Tyrion (the only Lannister that does) and I can't hold it against him for finally doing in the Mad King, either. Plus, the fight he had with Ned? I loved that he got pissed that the nameless guard stabbed Ned through the leg and totally fucked up their duel so him punched him in the face. I understand that Jaime really develops in the series and, yes, the fics of Jaime/Sansa are indeed hot. And they make sense like whoa. Song of Ice and Fire ficcers are very good writers. Love it.
