How are you to know how long the messages are which people are going to post? We can't predict. However, you can set a maximum limit on message lines if you want (in the Advanced -> Display Settings).

You currently can't change the way an author's name shows up, but if any user moves his/her mouse cursor over the author-name their browser should show their e-mail address where it shows the normal link address. If they didn't enter an e-mail address, it won't be a link so this won't show.
