Is it close up appraisal or interview? In many pageants, "interview" is really just close up appraisal - an opportunity to see the contestant close up to judge facial beauty, etc. The judges may ask a question or two but it is just to have something for the contestant to do rather than just silently being stared at. (Sunburst is like this) "Miss America" type pageants do have interview where the responses to the questions count but I have never heard of the responses from a toddler counting for a title! Maybe you should talk to the Director to make sure that what the child says actually counts.

I guess it is kind of the like close up appraisal. It's a universal miss state pageant. Last time one of the judges told me I needed to have my daughter practice her smile. They scored her really low.
