If I can't afford a coach what things can I do to teach my daughter poise? She just turned 3 and she gets little wired when she is on stage. She can't quite hold her feet in place and I dont know if I should be teaching her something specific or just letting her be natural. She has only done 2 pageants. Thank you for your HANDBOOK it is great.

You can easily teach her the basics if she will listen to you (some children listen to Moms better than others! lol!). It is best to take her some place that has a stage area to practice (maybe a church fellowship hall, school or community center). You need to know in advance the pattern that you want to teach. (A front T or back T) Mark the pattern onstage with masking tape X's. Your daughter should come out onto the stage and stand in "pretty feet". (the toe of back foot points slightly off to the right. The left foot is slightly in front with the toe pointing off to the left and the heel of the left foot touches the instep of the right) She will pause and then do a step-step turn. Hard to describe how to do it - go to a pageant and watch someone who knows how. She will pause after the turn and then walk to the next X and repeat until she reaches the back x and is dismissed. I can't really describe it all here but teaching your daughter yourself can certainly be done. Go to a pageant and watch or buy a tape of your age division to see the pattern and what the girls are expected to do. Good luck!
