My daughter is 15 months and actively participates in local pageants. Nothing major yet! We have such a fun time but there are several mothers at a local pageant that we do that ALWAYS have something smart to say. (after reading this handbook I guess it doesn't happen to only me.lol)The last paeant that we done ther my daughter placed 1st runner-up, prettiest smile,runner-up most photogenic. I was very pleased because we had a good time. When the pageant was over and we were getting ready to leave another pageant mom approaches me and says "You have a pretty little girl and she would have won if you wouldn't have put gloves on her!" Boy was I one-hot-mom. At the time I thought she was being rude but on the way home I got to thinking about it and I have never seen any other kids at that pageant wear Gloves either. So my question is when is it ok to where gloves? The gloves matched perfect with the dress. I have also heard this about hats. Note these are local pageant but some of the girls here do where state and national level dresses.
Oh yeah I have to brag- Oct.4 my daughter brought home her first Queen title at The Sunburst pageant along with prettiest eyes in the same dress but we didn't use the gloves!!! Did this have something to do with it?
Thank you- Justice's Pageant Mom- Virginia

I have never seen gloves in beauty - only sportswear or westernwear. Possibly the judges would have deducted for them so, unfortunately, the mom with the comments may have been right.

I really haven't seen gloves on anyone either, except for talent or costume event. I wouldn't use the gloves. Also, I know that mom sounded really rude, but on the other hand...you know this pageant handbook? Where would we be if people didn't tell us these things? She was probably just trying to help, after all you said she told "your daughter would have won..." so obviously she thinks very highly of your daughter, she was just probably trying to give you a tip so that next time your daughter would win! That's what I think anyway. To be honest, even though it does sound offensive, I would rather somebody tell me these things than just keep wondering why I lost. But, yeah, no gloves, and good luck to you and your little girl!! :-)
