Hi Steve,
I have been a HUGE fan of Journeys, and then yours when you went solo. My boyfriend at the time turned me onto Journey back in the 80's and you quickly became my favorite group. Listening to your voice was intoxicating and sent chills up and down my spine. Unfortunately, I wasnt able to see the legendary Steve Perry live but all I need do to melt once again is watch one of your videos. You were and still are so sexy. I weeped with you when your mother died knowing how close you were to her.
Congratulations on your star on the walk of fame. You deserve it. YOU were Journey. Without you and those beautiful voice....they wouldnt have made it far. Even now, they have split again. You will always be the frontman and the others know that. Thats why they talk about you.
Anyways, just wanted to let you know....your fans love you and miss you, but respect your decisions.
Love you Forever!!!

Hi Steve,
I am a 46yr. old South African woman, who has loved your music since I first heard it in 1983 when I had my daughter, I cannot remember when OH SHERRY, came out and I saw you on television, I instantly fell in love with not only the way you look, but your voice is enough to send happy tingles down any woman's spine. I have over the years listened to all your music and love everything you do. You have aged with grace and I admire you a lot, wish you came to South Africa for all of us to enjoy your music and voice.
Lots of Love from Sunny South Afria

Hello Steve,
I have been a fan of yours since the age of 15. Now at 35, I am still a devoted fan. I'm originally from México, but have been living here in Arizona since I was 8-years-old. I just wanted to say that Journey isn't Journey, without you. To tell you that they were here just last August, and I had no desire to be there. I wish the band well, but it's not the same without you. I'm not the only one who feels this way. Many of my close friends didn't go because of the same reason. Instead, we went to Happy Hour to celebrate you. =)Is there any possibility you'll be touring our state soon? You're greatly loved and admired. Wishing you the very best, always.
God Bless You!
Elena =)

Hi Steve. I have been a fan of yours for a long time. Saw you on Day on the Green in the bay area years ago. It was the first concert I have ever been to.
We have the same birthdays. Another thing? I pray for you. Yup! Every day. Not such a weird thing if God is the one who puts it on your heart. And He has and I do! Take care Steve and God bless....

wanted to send this message in Spanish so that you know that in this side of the world also we captivated ourselves with extraordinary music which you compose and you interpret of so impressive form thanks for the years that you have dedicated to this art, lamentably the extraordinary thing is not eternal, but we have left the registries of it. Gracias Steve Perry por todos los momentos maravillosos de mi vida que han transcurrido junto a tu música.

Subject: DVD Houston 11/6/81 Escape Tour

I got DVD Houston Live 11/6/81 and I cannot say enough about how great it is. When Journey was touring back in the 80's I was a single mother who had just gotten a divorce so I was unable to attend any of Journy's concerts. I loved the group so much and had completely fallen in love with Steve Perry and his remarkable voice. When this DVD came out and the other one Steve produced I was thrilled beyond words. Here I was now able to at experience the feeling of attending one of Journy's concerts. But when I saw this Houston and saw it was an actual concert I actually felt I was at one of their concerts. Most of all I could not believe how incredibel Steve Perry's voice was when he went from "Open Arms" right into "Mother, Father, Sister, Brothe" how could he do that? I was totally amazed.

I so much wish I could have gone to one of their concerts when I was younger. My son now is 21 years old on his own but, let me tell you, if it weren't for Steve Perry's voice and Journy's songs I don't think I could of made it through my son's childhood. I never remarried.

I wish I could thank Steve Perry myself in person or write him personally and know that he got my email or letter. But I know that never will happen. But who knows' maybe someday he might be surfing the web and find this website and read this letter of thanks.

Thank you Steve for everything you have done for me through your music and songs throughout my life. I will forever be an eternal fan and will always respect you as the great individual that you are.

I just want to throw in a few words , NO 1- I am a huge journey FAN, NO 2 I ve seen Steve Perry 5-6 times begining with the escape tour to his solo tour , and he is just awesome, if you listen to some of the live albums where he holds them high notes or even not so hard notes -but for 10 , 15 20 seconds you just cant believe it, getting back to my main thing , i do like the current journey lineup however I still wake up everday and say WHY cant steve perry play again , OH the good old days , if youve never seen Perry sing , , WOW , yoiu dont know what your missing, hes explosive ,he just carries you thru every song , I guess the first time I heard Steve Augierie I was dissapointed when he didnt hit the high notes in "oPEN ARMS" and also cut the part of the chorus's line short in 'Don't STop Believen " i was just like where is PERRY. yoiu you take the good with bad , - I - personally still dont know why perry stopped singing w/journey but I guess augiere is here to stay , HOWEVER perry can still do solo I would THink whatever i think im talking cicles now , anyway if anyone has any comments please send them to me . thanx

I agree with all above, SP's greatest hits is definitely true music. Truely a gifted and talented individual to grace the airwaves (not to mention our heart and soul).

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing SP at a concert back in I believe it was 1996 in El Paso, Texas at the Civic Center. He actually came out into the audience before the show to meet and greet, my sister and niece got to shake his hand. It was awesome. Keep up the good work Steve, will you perhaps be doing another tour in the near future?

Greatest Hits +5, the long awaited album by Steve Perry released in December 1998, delievers a more introspective and soulful work from Steve Perry then we ever got to see with Journey. While the hits from Street Talk are there, the gems of this album are the outtakes from the Against the Wall album, which got shelved in 1988 after the Sony takeover of Columbia records. "When You're in Love for the First Time" is a fun, Latinesque tune with a nice danceable rhythem. Against the Wall, is a great power rocker and the keyboard work is awesome as well as Pery's soaring vocals. Forever Right or Wrong (Love's Like a River)seems to fly on the majestic bridge of the song. The stacked background vocals are very good. Steve really shines on this. Summer of Luv, is a fun tune. The imagery is great: Steve Perry walking downtown and finding the love of his life one summer. The bit where he asks if she wants to go get some coffee after the show always makes me laugh! A fun, light spirited song sure to put a smile on your face! Melody, a slow simple song has an almost jazz kind of beat to it. Very nice. One of my personal favorites is Once in a Lifetime Girl. Upbeat and fun, this rocker will leave you breathless. Great guitar and keyboard work. And when in the bridge Steve whispers "I understand, Now you understand!"--Let's just say I get goosebumps! What Was is simply a masterpiece. Majestic and soaring, it can leave one in tears! Steve at his best.
Two tracks from For the Love of Strange Medicine: You Better Wait and Missing You really stand out as well. You Better Wait is a great rocker while Missing You is a beautiful Ballad. I stand Alone from the Quest for Camelot soundtrack is lovely. Great keyboard work and nice beat. It won't be You, written with Steve and Tony Brock, formerlly of the Baby's, this is a nice mid tempo ballad. It's sad in a way, but very beautiful. And finally..."If you need me Call me"--the demo that began it all with Journey. Excellent guitar and bass work. you can play this and then play the Infinity album and see exactly why Steve was the perfect fit for Journey.
Overall, this album is great. It reflects a much deeper sense as Steve as writer, his romanticism and his intelligence flow into these rare songs. It really showcases his respect for r&b, soul, and rock. And it leaves his fans anxious and waiting for more. (Hurry back Steve....we are "missing you!")

Subject: "Greatest Hits + 5 Unreleased" Album Review

Author:
Mike H.
[Edit]

Date Posted: 10:22:46 08/01/02 Thu

Former Journey front man, the legendary, Steve Perry’s latest release from Columbia Records couldn’t have come at a better time. Released in December 1998, Greatest Hits +5 Unreleased, unlike Journey’s Greatest Hits disk, released by Columbia ten years earlier, showcases the other side of the rocker’s musical façade. Artistically, Mr. Perry has come full circle by now with, not only, a disk telling the story of Steve Perry’s Journey but a disk telling the story of Steve Perry, the solo artist.

Track one, “Oh, Sherrie,” written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum, is a great rocker. I think that Journey's "Raised On Radio" album is reminiscent of this tune. It has great vocal by Steve Perry, and Michael Landeau is really good on guitar. It’s great.

Track two, “Foolish Heart,” written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum, and the only ballad from the “Street Talk” sessions, is great because it’s one of the best on the album, although, “Captured By The Moment” should’ve made it on this compilation. I love the smooth vocal and delicate keyboard flourishes. It’s a beautiful composition.

Track three, “She’s Mine,” written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum, isn’t that good. Steve Douglas’ sax solo is OK, and the tune would be better without it. Mr. Douglas did a better job on sax on the tune “I Believe”; otherwise, “She’s Mine” isn’t a bad tune. The guitar solo by Michael Landau is cool though.

Track four, “Strung Out,” words written by Steve Perry and Craig Krompf and music written by Steve Perry and Craig Krompf and Billy Steele, is a good tune. At first, I didn’t like it, but aside from “Oh, Sherrie,” it’s a cool rocker. Steve Perry really wails on those vocals. Billy Steele and Craig Hull have a great guitar solos, too.

Track five, “Go Away,” with words written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum and music written by Steve Perry and Bill Cuomo, is a smooth and soulful tune. It’s my favorite of the five (5) “Street Talk” session tunes on this album. I love Mr. Perry’s vocal and Mr. Michael Landau’s guitar solo.

Track six, “When You’re In Love (For The First Time),” written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum, is a fun tune with a “Latin/reggae” feel. I love the harmonizing background vocals, too. It’s a lot of fun. Michael Landau, Randy Goodrum and Randy Jackson do a great job on guitar, piano and bass guitar. It’s also the first of seven tracks from the previously unreleased “Against The Wall” sessions recorded in 1988.

Track seven, “Against The Wall,” written by Steve Perry, Randy Goodrum and Michael Landau, is a great mid-tempo “power ballad,” much like the Journey tradition. Steve Perry and Michael Landau do really well on vocal, guitar and piano. Mr. Perry’s vocal is a bit “guff” on this, and Larrie London “pounds” out those drums like nobody’s business. It’s a great “mid-tempo” rocker.

Track eight, “Forever Right Or Wrong (Love’s Like A River),” written by Steve Perry, Randy Goodrum, Lamont Dozier, Michael Landau, Randy Jackson, Larrie Londin and Bill Cuomo, is good. I really like the keyboard flourishes and the guitar solo as well as Mr. Perry’s soaring vocals. It’s great.

Track nine, “Summer of Luv,” written by Steve Perry, Randy Goodrum, Bill Cuomo, Michael Landau, Randy Jackson and Larrie Londin, has a Latin feel to it. It’s kind of a “corny” tune. My mother liked it. She said it was “cute,” and even though I like Steve Perry’s good vocal, I think that he was acting “silly.” It’s a silly tune. It has a good rhythm, section and vocal, but the lyrics are “silly.” I like the background vocals though. It has good keyboards, and I like the ending despite the rest.

Track ten, “Melody,” written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum, is beautiful. I was crying when I heard for the first time. I got choked up. I think that it has good guitar and keyboards from Randy Goodrum and beautiful vocal by Mr. Perry.

Track eleven, “Once In A Lifetime, Girl,” written by Steve Perry, Randy Goodrum, Rick Nowels, Bill Cuomo, Michael Landau, Randy Jackson, and Larrie Londin, is an awesome rocker, although, I don’t know what’s up with the intro to this tune. I like the keyboards before Perry comes in, and his vocal his great along with the guitar work. I really like the melody and the verse at the end over the guitar. It’s great.

Track twelve, “What Was,” written by Steve Perry and Randy Goodrum, is my least favorite from the “Against The Wall” sessions. I like the keyboard intro by Randy Goodrum though. Steve Perry sings well, but the tune is too slow. It’s the last track on the “Against The wall” sessions, although, it does have a nicely done ending by Steve Perry and Michael Landau.

Track thirteen, “You Better wait,” written by Steve Perry, Paul Taylor, Lincoln Brewster, Moyes Lucas and George Hawkins, is awesome. I only wish that I had the “For The Love of Strange Medicine” album when the USPFC did its review in February. I really think that Lincoln Brewster’s guitar work is great, I think that Steve Perry has “killer” vocals on this tune, and Paul Taylor is great on keys. It’s my favorite rocker on this album.

Track fourteen, “Missing You,” written by Steve Perry and Tim Miner, has good vocal from Steve Perry and beautiful piano work from Tim Miner with good background vocal, but the only downfall is the tempo of this tune. It’s too slow. I was falling asleep listening to this, too. Let’s speed things up a bit, Mr. Perry.

Track fifteen, “I Stand Alone,” written by Carole Bayer Sager, David Foster and Steve Perry, is a beautifully written tune from the Disney film, “Quest For Camelot.” It has awesome vocal from Steve Perry, and he has a great rhythm section with David Foster on strings and piano and John Robinson on drums. It made me cry the first time I heard it. It’s a very moving composition.

Track sixteen, “It Won’t Be You,” written by Steve Perry, Adrian Gurvitz and Tony Brock, is an OK “mid-tempo” ballad, and it has nice vocal from Steve Perry and OK piano work from Adrian Gurvitz, but it’s too slow. I was looking at the CD timer clock to see how many more minutes were left. But, one good thing did come out of this review – the fact that the next song (the last cut on this CD) is a “killer” way to finish off this album.

And last, but certainly not least, track seventeen, “If You Need Me, Call Me,” written by Steve Perry, Craig Krampf, Richard Michaels Haddad and Steve DeLacey, is an awesome tune. It rocks, and I can definitely hear why Steve Perry got the Journey job as a result of this tune from Alien Project. It has great vocal from Steve Perry, great guitar from Steve DeLacey, “driving” bass from Richard Michaels, and good drumming from Craig Krampf. It’s a great way to finish a phenomenal album by rock ‘n roll’s greatest.

Overall, Greatest Hits + 5 Unreleased by Steve Perry is a wonderful album because it showcases, on one CD, the best of Mr. Perry’s solo career – the other side of the rock legend. You didn’t think he could go beyond Journey, did you? Well, now you know that this CD proves he can go to great Frontiers with Journey and far Beyond with this.
