Subject: Father's Day anyone?

Just wanted to pass along an idea that I did for the men in church last year for Father's Day.
I bought flashlights at the Dollar Tree and placed them in the brown lunch bags to which I attached (glued) a copy of this poem (see below.) The poem that I have in my file is two to a sheet and has a clipart picture of a flashlight on it. It's not fancy just a poem with a border. If you want a fancy one perhaps one of our talented ladies could do it up. Keep in mind if you redo this that the finished project can't be over 8 1/2 inches long. If you make to a length of 8 1/2 inches it will fit perfectly on the bag. I used text size 10 to make mine. I would be glad to share mine if anyone would want it.

Here's the poem: (author unknown)

Shine Your Light

The countenance of the young man
Revealed a long, saddened face,
So the teacher sat beside him,
Wrapping him in her embrace.

Dark and gloomy, his heart outpoured
His feelings of deep despair,
For at last someone would listen,
So he opened up to share.

“My friend is having some problems,
And I don’t know what to do.
What do I say to comfort him?
He is really feeling blue.”

The teacher closed the curtains tight
And shut off the room’s bright light;
While holding closely onto to him,
She gave him a small flashlight.

She said, “Now turn this small light on.”
And at once the room did glow.
Then his face brightened with a smile
And he said, “Thanks, I must go.”

“You’ve helped me here to clearly see
That it’s not in words I say,
But being there to shine my light
Will brighten another’s day.

"Someone like you just to listen,
Someone to love and to care,
Someone to shine a light for them
And all of their burdens share.

"As Jesus shines His light through me,
I know I will find a way
To help my friend to bear his load
And to brighten up his day."

The teacher said, “You keep this light
And everywhere you go,
Remember you’re to shine your light
For others who need you so."

Leaving my email addy just in case anyone needs it.
If you want the poems, two on a page, email me direct and put "F/D Flashlight" in the subject line. If you prefer you can wait as one of our artistic ladies may make a fancy one.
