We are using the "Walking in Son Shine" material. It's a play on words, obviously. I think it's harder to do the bulletin boards for the older age groups. The primary packets are loaded with different things.
One thing I didn't understand was they wanted the junior age group to trace their feet...or their shoes. Anyone else feel that that age group would have some choice things to say.

Darlene,
I don't know how old your juniors are...but our youth group (6th grade through high school) just made a banner with their footprints on it. It was sort of like the foot prints in the sand. They had a ball! Each one chose a different piece of fabric, traced their foot & cut it out. Attached it to their banner with fusible web. It really turned out nice. One of our 12 yr olds is 6 ft. So His big old size 12 polka dotted footprint was the hit of the day!
You never know what they will like or not,
Have fun,
Dutchie

Darlene, like Dutchie said.....go for it. The teacher that had that age group last year had her kids trace their feet on cardboard and made thongs. She then gave them rolls of cheap tp (you know, the sandpaper kind that won't tear!) a bunch of old tinsel, vines, etc and they draped and dressed each other. They had a ball...it was early in the evening and those that managed to keep them together WORE THEM HOME.
12, 13 and 14 year olds. we were stunned!!

Darla...and others!!! I too have done it all and it is hard to come up with anything. Oriental trading and S&S have some good ideas, but the best place i have come up with so far is guildcraft.com in the VBS section. Their prices are great, the kits include everything you need, down to the markers. If you can't afford, or don't want to buy, at least you may get some new ideas. I know I did!!

First let me say I'm having a case of it's a small world. Darlene, That is my name also I use Darla on puter, also my last name before I married was Stephens. Same as yours just the different spelling. Talk about weired. At first I didn't know who was telling who what LOL! Now back to the topic, Taking the plunge is Standard Pub. Last years theme. It's about plunging in to the Son. Make a splash with Jesus. I have the pre-school kids. Plus a elementary class combined with us for lack of a extra room. So I have ages 2 thru 6. The stories are Miraculous 1. Catch of Fish (Luke 5:1-11) 2. Jesus Calms the Storm 3. Jesus Walks On Water 4. Jesus Washes the Disciples' Feet. It's a wonderful VBS program. The mascots are penguins. My mind has raced so much and I have looked high and low and have ideas but have made no decision on what to do. I have got to pull myself together and get with it by next week. Did I mention I'm not crazy about going on a road trip right now that I can't get out of? I know I'll be glad I went at some point but Ahhhhh!!!!! I have to much to do. Plus I baby sit. Anyone Got time in a bottle???? LOL. Any advice or help will be great. Sorry I didn't tell my ages in my original post. Thanks in advance for all help. Darla

Here are some themes I found online - not much else to go with them, though.
Jerusalem marketplace
Luau
Beach party
Harvest county fair
Western
10 Commandments
Armor of God
Noah's Ark
Fruits of the Spirit
To everything there is a season
What would Jesus do? - making Christ-centered choices
