My husband each year lets them grow to a larger size. Then he cuts off the tops and lays them on newspaper in a dark cooler place. We then have onions until the next spring. Space them apart on the newspaper.

I always freeze my onion, either cut in half to put in green beans or other vegetables of cut very small to use for meat loaf or pizza. I also cut green pepper very small to use on top of pizza or in meat loaf.
