Keycorp swallows Turkish delight
9-January-2003
Australian smartcard company, Keycorp (KYC) has been awarded a $30 million contract to supply a range of electronic payment solutions to the technology arm of one of Turkey’s largest industrial and services groups, Oyak Teknoloji.

Over the term of the three-year contract, Keycorp expects to supply over 30,000 payment terminals and more than two million MULTOS smartcards, which the company expects to generate around $30 million in revenue.

Mr Bruce Thompson, CEO of Keycorp said the win was particularly pleasing given the company had been selected over other world leading suppliers.

"Turkey is one of the most competitive markets in Europe and by earning this opportunity, Keycorp has shown beyond doubt that we have the necessary capabilities to win major deals in overseas markets," Mr Thompson added.

In November last year, Keycorp announced that it expected to report positive earnings in fiscal year 2003.

Speaking at the company’s annual general meeting, Mr Malcolm Irving, chairman of Keycorp told shareholders that Keycorp began the current fiscal year with a "substantial" backlog of orders, which will weigh through to the bottom line this fiscal year.

At 1045 AEST Keycorp was trading 3c or 2.26% stronger at $1.36
