The new version greatly expands interoperability with a variety of devices and systems, operates at twice the speed of past versions and makes it easy to install and deploy smart card-based IDs to large-scale user populations. ----------------------------------------------------------- "ActivCard Gold 2.2 raises the bar on smart card middleware quality through high performance, customizability and ease of deployment," said Ed MacBeth, Senior VP of Marketing, ActivCard. "ActivCard Gold 2.2 has proven maturity and reliability which is why it continues to be the top choice smart card security software, way ahead of newer competitors." ----------------------------------------------------------- Enhanced Interoperability ----------------------------------------------------------- With more than 1.5 million copies sold, ActivCard Gold is the most deployed smart card client software on the market. ActivCard Gold 2.2 supports more applications, smart cards, readers, PKI certificate authorities and operating environments than any other smart card middleware. New support in the 2.2 release includes Windows XP; biometric fingerprint authentication; remote desktop environments like Windows XP Remote Desktop and Windows.NET Terminal Server; and thin client terminals. ActivCard Gold 2.2 also offers broader support for new Java Cards, PKI and leading messaging and collaboration platforms, including IBM Lotus Notes. ----------------------------------------------------------- Double the Performance ----------------------------------------------------------- New performance features in the middleware - which secures the desktop by increasing security for remote access, local login, email and other applications - make ActivCard Gold 2.2 on average twice as fast as previous releases. This reduces the cost of deployments - which lowers the total cost of ownership (TCO) - and makes large-scale deployments easier. ----------------------------------------------------------- ActivCard Gold for CAC 2.2 Launches Today ----------------------------------------------------------- ActivCard also announced today the launch of ActivCard Gold for CAC 2.2, client software designed exclusively for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC) programme. In October 2002, ActivCard sold its one-millionth license of ActivCard Gold for CAC to the DoD agencies: Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. ------------------------------------------------------------ This latest version provides most of the new features of ActivCard Gold 2.2 as well as new user capabilities unique to the DoD. These include a new CAC demographic data viewer and support for the Defense Travel System (DTS) programme, which authenticates users and provides travel approvals via digital signature. It also supports the Oberthur CosmopolIC Card, the third card type issued by the DoD. ------------------------------------------------------------ "New features of ActivCard Gold 2.2 will allow military personnel even greater use of their Common Access Cards, like arranging travel through the Defense Travel System," said Jean-Luc Azou, Senior Product Marketing Manager for ActivCard Gold. "The US Navy created a custom 'silent' installation of ActivCard Gold 2.2 using the new set up features, which enabled them to push the new version rapidly to Navy personnel workstations on multiple bases without having to manually perform the upgrade." ----------------------------------------------------------- Key Component of ActivCard Corporate Access Card Solutions ActivCard Gold can be either standalone end user client software or a key component of ActivCard Corporate Access Card (CAC) solutions. The Corporate CAC is a modular suite of software products for enterprise identity badge deployments, which enables administrators to manage and update smart card content during and following issuance.
