Date Posted: 20:54:01 01/23/04 Fri In reply to: Frank 's message, "Re: Alan Byrne - A Charlatan" on 13:22:25 01/23/04 Fri In reply to the many posts seen above: I have been visiting this site for the last number or weeks and have been immensly entertained by quite a few threads contained within. The threads concerning a Mr. Alan Bynre have especially caught my eye and have prompted me to repsond for the first time. Firstly, I would not consider my self a 'die-hard' Lizzy or Phil fan, having only really begun to listen to there music in the last two years (Being honest, before that my knowledge on lizzy was limited to tracks such as 'Boys are back in town' and 'Old town'). However, I have slowly begun to appreciate and enjoy his/their music and its influence on pop/rock culture, over the past years and am disappointed at a number of things I have seen in respect to this thread. I think a lot of people have lost what the true meaning behind Mr. Byrne's work is. Having resarched it over the Internet over the past number of months, the book (which I believe is being titled 'Soldiers of Fortune') seems to be unique in its kind. By this I mean I have heard that Mr. Byrne seems to have been able to get hold of quite a few of the 'old-timers' of the Lizzy era, some of whom may even be breaking their silence for the very first time. (I do not have any hard concrete evidence to support this however) I agree with 'Davey m' stating that here is not the place or time to discuss 'bad trades' whatever the reason. I first stummbled across this site while looking for some Lizzy fans with a hope to maybe accquiring some of Phil's solo material, and songs from the Grand Slam days. I presumed (maybe somewhat stupidly) that this message board would have topics and discussions on the different types/era's of Phil's music and the different tastes of Lizzy fans. but was somewhat saddened to see a lot of moaning and complaing, and people trying to settle personal vendaeta's online. In response to Sandy's post, I have checked with a number of my local book shops and have been informed that the book is in the final stages and should be on the shelves within the next 6 weeks. That's really all I have to say at the moment. I hope no-one takes any personal offence to this post as it certainly wasn't meant to be that way. I cannot comment on anyone else's dealings with Alan but here's hoping that he is able to whether the storm. I look forward, as I hope does everybody else on the site, to the eventaul release of the biography. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
