Date Posted: 22:45:12 01/23/04 Fri In reply to: Lennart 's message, "Re: Alan Byrne - A Charlatan" on 12:54:19 01/23/04 Fri I agree with Phil that Alan should be given the benefit of the doubt here. Too much, too young also rings a bell with me too about things I took on in the past and couldn't deliver on. I have some sympathy there! It's all about communication though, that's the problem. I don't know how old Alan is, but I guess you don't really learn the benefits of keeping people informed until you've experienced the anger, frustration and complaints of those you haven't kept informed a few times. Took me a long time to learn that one! Grasping the nettle to give someone bad or disappointing news is unpleasant sometimes, but always better than leaving them in the dark and telling them nothing. Tempers fray and spill out into bitterness, insult, accusation - and a right old slanging match. Learning from that comes with age and experience - the hard way! Leaving it to fester while you bury your head in the sand when it gets a little too unpleasant and uncomfortable just leads the situation into a deepening spiral until eventually someone goes balastic and you have to deal with a far worse situation. I've never written a book nor done anything with such a public deadline, nor do I know Alan but I bet he probably feels pretty rotten and guilty about it, despite an achievement I'm sure he should feel proud of. He has made promises and set deadlines for others probably at his publishers insistence that they couldn't, or never intended to keep to. No skin off their nose is it? Alan is getting the crap for it, not them! Personally, I'm really looking forward to the book and CDROM and it doesn't really bother me that both have been on order for over 9 months, (I know someone who has been writing a biography on her famous dad for over 10 years now - and has only just finished it). Alan, please learn from this experience and keep people informed. It's still not too late, and do it now rather than wait for the radio show on 30 January. It will be far less hassle for you in the long run, believe me! It only takes a few minutes to post here and you'll feel better for it. Grandad O'Connell signing off! Have to have my coco now and go to bed as it's nearly 11pm !! ;-) Cheers :-) [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
