Subject: Kia, why are they still in busness?

We got suckered into a KIA because we had limited credit at the time. We figured why not, they have a good warranty, so we bought a 99 KIA sportage, in 2002. Since we've had it, it’s been in the shop twice, each time for a week (would have been more, but this is our primary vehicle and we can't afford to keep taking it in, they wont give us a loner.) Since we've owned it, the 4 wheel drive went out, the leather seats pealed along with the steering wheel have peeled, the carpet ripped by the gas door (we were told that we put to much wait on the area and that’s why it ripped), the side molding fell off twice, and is falling off again, the fender flair paint is peeling the shocks went out, the exhaust fell off. Right now it makes an awful rattle when sitting at stoplights, which is embarrassing. Its so loud that we have to turn the car off in drive troughs to order. The worst part about it is the dealership I have to deal with tells me I need to go through them for everything. The stock exhaust is close to $400 plus labor; a local shop can put a performance exhaust on for $300 out the door. The Shocks were almost $300 a piece; again performance shocks are only $100 each. I've already been warned about not spending $500 for a tune up from the dealership when I did the same thing with better quality parts for $150. Everything is covered under warranty until it breaks, I bout the car so I wouldn't have to work on it, but work on it more than I did with any other car I've owned. I don’t have time to keep taking it in, and being in the military figured that when I’m gone the car would be the last thing the wife had to worry about. Were paying it off and getting something American made, they might be pricey but at least they last longer than 2 years.
