Subject: Kia Rio Cinqo 2002

We bought a new Cinqo two years ago from a dealership in Auburn, WA.

It was brand new.
Initially, it ran great. It got great mileage and we were happy with it.

After 8-9months, we had a problem with Park switch that made it so you couldn't start the car because it thought it was in gear. Had it towed and fixed. Then the automatic locks stopped working. Called the dealer and the mechanic actually asked if it came with automatic locks -what a genius! Traced to an electrical problem and was fixed. It was pretty much fine until the last few months when every time we go up a hill, the check engine light goes on and it's starts missing badly and loses about 80% of it's power.

This problem has NEVER been fixed. We have less than 20k miles on this car in a little over two years. We have taken it to a KIA dealer in Shoreline, WA five times. Every time, they say they fixed it. The last time, it broke within five minutes of leaving the dealer. I just made a U-turn and drove it back. The dealer then told me that they have had two other RIO's just like this and they have no idea what's causing it. They replaced the coil twice, fixed some "bad" connections on the fuel injection harness and replaced the spark plugs.

My wife asked them one time if she should continue to drive it while it's missing on two cylinders and the dealership inferred that doing this may make break it in a "bigger" way that they could actually fix! Howz that for you? We can't fix the electrical problem so destroy the motor and we'll just replace the whole thing!

They told me just this week that the dealer is going to contact their KIA rep and find out what can really be done about this problem. They are tired of looking at us and dealing with our "coup debris" The rep in the past told them to let KIA know when they figure out what the problem is!!!!

The dealer also told me that the owner of one of the other KIAs just gave up on ever getting it fixed and traded the car in. He asked me if I was ready to trade this one in yet?

This situation is seriously shitty. I can't believe what a sorry piece of crap this car is. This should be a five minute fix and it's taken 3 months to have nothing done. The warranty is great if they can actually fix the problem but if they can't, then what?
