Subject: 2011 Optima EX a big disappointment

Last April I purchased two new Kias, an Optima EX and a Sorento EX. So far my wife loves the Sorento which is her car. However, I'm less than satisfied with the Optima because of the ever increasing road noise. It just keeps getting worse especially on concrete pavement. My first visit to the service department resulted in a tire rotation to solve the problem. Not so much, no. Then on my next appointment a service technician rode with me offering that he also thought that the noise was excessive. Then he took out another 2011 Optima with similar mileage and concluded that that car's road noise was comparable to mine. The end result was one of "There's nothing that we can do."

So I decided to submit a complaint on the Kia Motors web site. They called me back and left a message a couple days later. The first representative I reached asked me to hold. While holding and listening to her breath on the other end of the line for 5 minutes I asked if anyone was still there. "Yes, please continue to hold, sir" was the reply. Another 10 minutes later I asked into the phone "What are we waiting for that prevents us talking for 15 minutes?" No reply. After another couple minutes and no reply to "Hello?" I hung up and called back. The second representative was much more efficient in staying engaged on the line. However that's where the efficiency ends. After reviewing the notes and the service department entry she felt that the dealership went above and beyond to address the issue. She was sorry that I was feeling such dissatisfaction with the car bu there was nothing under the warranty to fix. However, she would forward my complaint to the design team for future reference. When I mentioned that I couldn't offer a favorable review of the car given the noise that involved she politely told me that it was within my rights as a consumer to offer a less than favorable review.

So, here I am exercising my rights as a consumer and hopefully providing someone else fair warning. Given the lack of sincere effort to address my issue by Kia Motors customer service and the obvious poor design, these will be the last Kias that I own. As soon as I can trade out of this car the better.
