"Gay conversion" is what religious right wingers do to convert gays into streamline-shaped living hetero zombies. There is also an association of psychologists and psychiatrists (NARTH) who sound as if they came directly from KZ and Gulag psychiatric wards and had to look for jew jobs when those institutions closed. They produce the same zombies as religious converters but they use "reparative treatment" as their method.

Those methods are considerably worse than persuation, it's destructive brainwashing which only very stable people might survive without remaining damage, but those people will not agree to conversion or repair from the beginning. All of those eager "helpers" would rather mentally and bodily destroy a person than leave a single even faintly gay hair to them. I'm not easily scared but those people frighten me.
