it seems that since John was so universally hated that anything written about him would have to be suspect. But it seems that John couldnt have been all bad at least in reference to Isabella. One source I have records that she received many expensive gifts from him. Perhaps they were apologies for his bad temper but maybe they were sincere love gifts. According to "Royal Brides" by E.L. Black John had openly bragged of his bastards and mistresses when he was married to Adelicia but he never mentioned any while married to Isabella. And given the morality of upper class men of that time bastards can NOT be held against him.
