Instead of launching smoothly into a canter with all her usual grace, the mare tossed her head up and flattened her ears, going forward at an unbalanced, too-rushed trot. Something about the woman's abrupt, perhaps even coarse style clashed with the mare's personality and training.

((Let's see, I'd propose slowing down a little - but that's just a suggestion.))
