1. I'm no authority on this thing, but while I believed Bob at the time of the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert, I now think he was joking. (But I'm very glad to know that other Bob Geldof fans think that Queen is brilliant, as I do!)

2. Re-release of Band Aid -- do you mean of "Do They Know It's Christmas"? Is it not available on a number of Christmas CDs? (Maybe not on any New Zealand CDs; that, I wouldn't know.)

3. What video format is used in New Zealand -- NTSC (North American/Japanese) or PAL (European)?

What makes you think he was joking? (I'll still love it even if Fred didn't help write it, honest!)

By Band Aid, yes I do mean "Do They Know it's Christmas", and I do have a copy of it and have seen it on various compilation CD's (even here!!) But it's not what I want. Now, of course that sounds picky and immature (as indeed I have the reputation of being!!) but I would really like the original. The whole idea of the release was to make money for a good cause, and I am unsure of whether compilation CD's contribute anything to that, also I would like to have it along with my copy of the re-release of Bo Rhap after Freddie dying and if I should 'pop off' tomorrow, I'd like the people who clear out my things (butlers excepted, especially ones who's stories appear in the tabloids! grrrr) to sigh and say "what great taste in CD's she had" (JOKE-No offense meant to sensitive readers). Besides my totally selfish reasons for wanting a copy, I also think that a re-release would sell, it might motivate more people to think about things like that they could do themselves and, IT'S A GREAT SONG so WHY NOT!!!

I think that we have the 'PAL' version of vid's, It says colour-PAL on the backs of all the ones I have, and any video brought in Britain works here too. And since Britain is part of Europe (I duck, cover my face and wait for the rotton tomatoes & eggs while violently protesting that I didn't mean that!!!!!) I should assume it was the case. I have never had any videos from the US, but my super technological and computer savvy brother informs me that I would need a special player to watch vid's from there! Does this mean I can hope you may be able to help me in my quest for Live Aid footage?!?! I wait in anticipation for the reply!!!!

Well, the song isn't credited to Freddie; and other than that line of Bob's, there no evidence at all that Freddie ever collaborated with him, or had any interest at all in Irish folk music (why would he?). So, I think it was just offbeat, Geldofian humour.

Well, no, I can't help. My Live Aid stuff is in NTSC (US) format. You wouldn't be able to watch it without first converting to PAL, or buying a new VCR that could play that format. Sorry.

Thanks for your theory! As I've just started listening to his music and following his career I shall have to acknowledge your more well informed opinion! HOWEVER, whether it be my trusting nature or sheer stubbonness, I am going to keep hoping that they DID collaborate, contrary to all evidence pointing otherwise!! Maybe we'll speak tonight @ 8:30 GMT!!
