Subject: Bob in Toronto

Went to Bob's show in Toronto on Friday night and it was AMAZING!!! It was a small crowd and the venue was very intimate. They played for about two and a half hours and did 3 encores - the band was hot, the sound was great and the man himself was awesome! After the show, Bob came out and signed autographs for the group of fans who had stayed behind - what a man. For those of you with tickets to his upcoming shows, you are in for one hell of a night!!!!

p.s. Thanks for setting up this message board Gypsy!

Yeah definitely!

I was at the show too - Things started a bit shakey - I think it takes a couple of songs for Bob's voice to warm up and for him to be comfortable - but after that it was amazing.

A small but enthusiastic crowd (maybe 250). Rows of chairs were set up but they were discarded during Rat Trap and everyone rushed to the front of the stage for the end of the show and the encores. I saw the setlist and Bob went completely off it. He was only supposed to do 1 encore but things were cooking so kept playing more.

He took requests too - I'm hopeless with song titles but he played the one "...In the beat of the night" - supposedly for the first time in a long time - and 2 other requests. He also did "Great Song Of Indifference" twice - once normal speed and again at the end of the show in double and triple time - with multiple false endings! Amazing!

The best song of the night for me was "Sex Thing" though - not my favourite song of his by any means - but in concert it really "drives".
The band rocked - Jamie Moses on guitar did a great job - I think largely improvisational - I think he just joined the band and Bob announced after one song that Jamie had never even heard that song before.

Bob told lots of stories between the songs - and the new ones sounded great. I can't wait to see him again.

Just agreeing that this was a fantastic show -- one of the best I've ever seen by anyone. I'm still glowing with the memories of it.

I'd never seen Bob or the Boomtown Rats live before, so I'm so grateful he did make this Toronto stop and that the Globe and Mail actually made note of it! Otherwise I might never have known.

I'd been concerned about the change of venue from the Music Hall, but really, the Palais was great. I got closer than I ever would have in the theatre, and the hot steaminess of the place just seemed kind of appropriate.

What a great night: band's amazing, energy level so high, great stories, really upbeat (if a bit small) audience... I'm envying those who still have a Bob show ahead of them.

Here's a picture from the show at the Palais Royale. Thanks Louise and Darren!
