Subject: My review -- Bob Geldof live at the Rehearsal Hall
In reply to: Beth 's message, "Re: Bob Geldof live at the Rehearsal Hall" on 15:58:04 11/30/02 Sat

I was out last night, but fortunately the VCR programming worked, and I watched the program today.

The Globe reporters were right that Chilton isn't much of an interviewer, but Bob was nonetheless funny and charming as usual. The music was definitely the highlight, though. Featured were The Great Song of Indifference, A Sex Thing, I Don't Like Mondays, One for Me, Mudslide, Birthday Suit, and Rat Trap.

"Great Song" and "Sex Thing" were clearly warm-ups, though well-performed ones. Bob often seems to struggle with the vocal on "Mondays"; this performance was better on that count than others I've seen. But the best sequence, I found, was the trio from Sex, Age, and Death -- the small, warm atmosphere was perfect for those things. Then the band could really let loose with "Rat Trap."

I wonder how the audience for this was selected? At any rate, they were small in number but appreciative, giving the band a standing ovation at the end. (And one of the audience members asked one of the best interview questions of the night: "Which do you fear most: sex, aging, or death?")

I do have an extra tape of this show, so Beth and Rob, I'll contact you directly about it.

The stuido audience was generated by contests from the Bravo website and really, really big fans who called :)

Coming up - I'll post more stories right now.
