Subject: Bob Geldof Sept. 20 in Toronto

I was an instant fan at the age of 14, Fine Art of Surfacing was my first exposure to Bob and the Rats. I was in Manhatan this past August and was discussing shows I had seen, and I told my friend that "I had been to David Bowie, The Police and U2, unfortunately I don't think I will ever see Bob Geldof, which is a shame because that would complete my top 4" well would you believe that I was only back in Canada one week when my brother told me about the show Bob was to be performing in Toronto, I immediately called for tickets. I have never been to such a small intimate concert, at least not one given by someone I have long admired. It has to have been the best I will ever experience. I must admit that I felt almost intrusive when Bob performed a series of three songs from his new album. When he said he was going to 'disapear' for a while as he sang them, I have little doubt that he had reached the inner core of himself. On a lighter note I was quite impressed with how well he looked, living in Canada we were spared most of the nonsense usually spewing from the rag mags, yet we were still aware of the sadness surounding him the past several years. I had the good fortune to speak with him for a quick moment after his performance, when he showed the good grace to take time and meet some of his fans. I asked Bob if I could tell him something, and I shared with him a thought referring to my adolescent years and what struck me was the sincerity of his reply. He not only listened to what I had said but recognized the importance of it and acknowledged it. Sorry for my long windedness but I was quite taken with the intimacy of the whole evening. Thanks again Bob.
