Hey Beth!

i felt PRIVILEGED to be there -- I was in the front row (near right, in front of lovepump) -- and dying to burst out of my chair at EVERY song! i had waited almost 10 years to see him perform again -- and the show was SOOOOO amazing! but the girl next to me told me to sit down right after "....Indifference" ended because she "couldn't see." HUH?! you're in the front row, honey! (and she did NOT appear handicapped whatsoever, so her feet WERE working.) weren't you DYING to dance around during "rat trap?" NO ONE even got up for "Mondays" for god's sakes!!! and where were the requests from that crowd??? all i kept hearing was that guy yelling, "welcome back bob" at the most inopportune moments. (god bless him for his enthusiasm, but enough!)

believe it or not, i saw bob in philly on the "happy club" tour about 9-10 years ago. their were only about 100 people at the venue then! and again -- i was in the front row -- and NO ONE STOOD! it was DEPRESSING!!!

where were you sitting?! i wish we had seats together -- there's strength in numbers and we could have overruled the idiots glued in their seats!

and beth, your review was WAY better than fricke's review. (I saw him leave the backstage door later on that night, FWIW. and i also saw chrissie hynde -- but at the time i swore it couldn't be her because she looked like a suburban mom!) my issue with fricke is that he opines about what a great concert it was (and DAMMIT! wasn't it?!) then says that no one saw it. i wonder if the irony has crossed his mind that his magazine probably had a lot to do with all those empty seats? where was the press for SAD? where were the geldof articles every time a new album was released? NO WHERE! the only time RS ever mentioned bob's name was in conjunction with his personal life. ((PARDON THE UPCOMING VENT)) so shut up david fricke -- yeah it was a great review -- but a TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. ((sorry beth -- had to get that out on the incredibly small chance he reads this!)) your review was WAAAAY better anyway!

were you part of the small crowd that waited around for bob to come out after the show???? do you think he'll ever bother coming back here again???

In defense of the people sitting down, Bob Geldof did mention he requested venues with seats so to keep some comfortable distance with the crowd when he performed the toughest songs from sex age & death. But I agree, sitting down was terribly difficult with all the energy Bob and the band were throwing our way!

Oh, yes, absolutely! *Agreed.* It almost borders on the *obscene* to dance around to "Inside Your Head" or "One for Me" -- they're too personal to take any joy in -- even if they have kick ass rhythmn.

But his other body of work was fair game for a party! Particularly considering he might not ever appear in the States again. :(

It was indeed a privilege to be there. Lucky you - front row at Town Hall is like sitting right next to the performer. Were you near the guy w/the Ramones tee? It was a very "restrained" vibe; I *was* dying to get up for many of the songs if just to show Bob, "Look! We really DO appreciate this amazing performance and we ARE happy you're here!" The only thing more cringe-inducing than the third "Welcome Back Bob!" was when it was modified to "Bobby".
I was 7th row center aisle, right side. Wore a black/cream snakeskin-ish long jacket, Hamnett t-shirt. You're so right, it would have been wonderful to have known each other before the show, but I'm so happy we've 'met' now! Thanks also for the kind words about the review. Hey, I'm just glad RS actually acknowledged the show. (They did a ((positive)) review of SA&D, albeit a one-inch size one as part of an 'other releases' sidebar last month - )I didn't see Miss Chrissie (or maybe I DID, based on your description!) & didn't wait around. Did you, and if so, what if anything transpired? I don't know that he'll soon, if ever, come back to NYC although it's my fervent hope that he does. I think it would be wise to get the passports in order - put it that way.
