Subject: Backstage in Vancouver

Hey everyone,

My friend Marq DeSouza had the extreme good fortune to be asked to open for Bob at the last minute in Vancouver the other night. Marq is the lead singer for Solarbaby and an accomplished solo performer as well (www.marqdesouza.com). He jumped at the chance to open for Bob, playing solo acoustic and I came along as his guitar technician/helper/moral support.

We had an absolute blast watching the show and afterwards we were backstage and got talking to Alan Dunn, who really liked Marq's stuff. He invited us to their dressing room for a drink and suffice it to say it was a real treat! Alan is a great guy, very gracious and easy to talk to, the kind of guy you just instantly like and want to be friends with.

He was giving us all kinds of advice and told us Bob thought Marq sounded like a young Van Morrison, which apparently, coming from Bob, is quite a compliment! We did get to meet Bob, and while I'm sure he thinks we were a couple of star struck idiots, we had a terrific time hanging out, drinking, eating the leftovers and watching the band as they wrapped up their North American tour.

Highlight of the conversation with Bob: "I used to live here you know"

We left Alan with a couple of Marq's CDs and he promised to drop us an e-mail from Australia when he had a chance to listen to them...

The guys had been in top form all night and having the chance to meet them afterwards and hang out in the dressing room surely ranks as one of the coolest events in my life!

Cheers!

I have to say -- that is deeply cool! Thanks for sharing! And Bob definitely is a big Van Morrison fan -- I have a documentary on Irish rock music in which he (Bob) interviews Van Morrison -- obviously someone he deeply admires musically.
