Shirley,

My guess as to the warnings you saw is that they were in regards to a flash based ad on the top tier page. The has been a rash of fun little trojans poppong up all over the place. There is one called Zeus that has a little brother named Kneber that is really nasty. There is also various personalities of the Vundo trojan out there. I think they are at Vundo.R right now. I know the Vundo.H was real nasty, but have not had the pleasure of killing Vundo.H as of yet.

All of these different trojans seem to come through the flash ad's on just about every site. I have however found an easy fix. First right click on your my computer icon and select properties. Select the System restore tab, and check the Turn Off System Restore on all drives. Select the Computer Name tab. Look at the line that begins with Full computer name:, and write down what follows. My computer name for example could be aives03. Click OK, and shut down your computer.

Once your computer boots back up do not log on. Go to another computer on your home network if you happen to have one. On the unaffected computer click Start>Run. In the run box type \\The Computer Name You Wrote Down\C$ and click OK. You might be prompted for a user name and password. If that prompt occurs just type in the user name and password that you assigned to yourself on the infected PC. Once that has been verified you will get a window with the contents of your infected PC. Double click on the Documents and Settings folder. Right click on the folder that has your user name and drag to the current PC desktop, and select move. Once that directory has been moved you can then log back on to the infected PC. Click Start>Run and type regedit and select OK. Go to HKLM(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Run. Call your teenage grandson to figure out which line to delete, or post every line in the run key here, and I should be able to spot the line, or lines you will need to delete.

Once again call your teenage grandson and have him burn to CD or DVD the old user profile that you copied to the other PC desktop. Have that teenage grandson copy the desktop folder, the favorites folder and the my documents folder to your fresh profile on your previously infected PC. Have your teenage grandson set up your email if using either Outlook or Outlook express you will need to also have this slacker of a grandson import your old email as well so you don't lose any past email.

Make sure that if you have a granddaughter as well that you invite her into the room where all this is taking place. During this entire process you may need to coach your granddaughter in how to properly tell a man that he can not, or does not know how to do something. This constant background nagging must take place as it is necessary to complete the process in a timely and correct manner.

At work I use the normal users to fill the role of granddaughter while I play the roll of grandson. I have not tried this process without the constant nagging of the granddaughter figure as played by the client so I can not guaranty that it will work if you leave out nagging granddaughter role.

Please be sure to record the entire process on video. I could use a laugh every no and then.

On a serious note... The above directions will get rid of most trojans, although I don't really think you need the nagging granddaughter step.

Until next tiem,

Zif.
