I agree that congress has to reign in spending, however, the most egregious spending took place under Bush. Did you hear anyone complaining when he got two UNFUNDED tax cuts? How about the UNFUNDED Prescription Drug Plan? How about two wars whose costs were kept off the books by listing them as supplementals.

That said, Jeff, if you were in the shoes of a newly laid off person (and there were over 200,000), how would you feel about Coburn's actions?

Personally, I'd like to see earmarks done away with. If a congress person has to rely on those in order to get reelected, what does it say about him/her? I'd also like to see mandatory public financing of elections with strict limits. I'm not so naive as to believe that will ever happen since congress makes the laws but it's one way of getting rid of special interests.
