When insurance actuarilers compute the cost of an insurance plan in healthcare, they weigh healthy vs. sicks pto compute cost. The more healthy and younger people in a plan is what drives rates down since they're the least cositly to insure.

Our granddaughter is in her junior year at IU, majoring in elemenatry ed. She's making straight As, is on the Dean's List and is volunteering to student teach a parttime in Gary schools. She will graduate with NO student loan debt. She's worked since HS days and gives a whole new meaning to saving.

That said, I've seen many students using Pell grants in order to get a leg up on the ladder. Without Pells, many would have no opportunity to advanced education. Not all of them are lazy nor opposed to hard work. You can't judge the whole by a few.

MaryAnnea posted an interesting article by David Brooks on KFS. There's a lot of wisdom in it. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/06/opinion/06brooks.html?src=me&ref=general

As for health, I'm still on blood thinners and will be for another two or three months. Therefore, I can't have broccoli, bussel sprouts or leafy green and the only lettuce I can have is iceberg because of the vitamin K condent which does the opposite of blood thinners. On top of that, a three piece bridge containg three teeth fall out, posts and all and 10 days ago developed pnuemonia. With all the sitting and laying, I'm losing what little strength I had in my legs and confined to a walker and wheel chair. I'm having a hard time adjusting to it all. I'm just ready to throw in the spong. On the plus side, having a couple of grown children living here has been a godsend. I'm not liking being waited on and having to depend on others.
